6 p.m. Inaugural Exhibition and Reception
Special patrons dinner for major donors to the Gibson project and members of the Board of Visitors and Governors. Guests will preview "Second Nature: Masterpieces of 19th-Century Landscape Painting" in the Kohl Gallery curated by Kohl Gallery Director and Underwood Chair in Art History, Donald McColl. Singer Sue Matthews '75, accompanied by pianist Robert Redd, will perform "The American Songbook." By invitation only.
3:30 p.m. Fall Convocation
With Fall Convocation held in Decker Theatre, the Gibson Center for the Arts officially opens to the public. Mark Bramble, a theatre director, author and producer whose production of 42nd Street won the Tony Award in 2001, will accept an honorary doctorate of arts. Art historian Linda Nochlin, known for her monumental publications on Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, as well as for her groundbreaking work to advance the cause of women artists, will receive the honorary doctor of fine arts degree. Tom Paxton, Grammy-winning folk singer/songwriter, will also receive an honorary degree of fine arts. Joining the honorees will be Stephen Spotswood '99. Stephen will receive the very first Alumni Horizon Ribbon Award in recognition of his brilliant playwriting. The Alumni Horizon Ribbon Award was recently established by the Alumni Board to identify and recognize outstanding graduates of the last 15 years. A gala reception will follow in the Underwood Lobby. "Second Nature: Masterpieces of 19th-Century Landscape Painting" will be on display in the Kohl Gallery.
8 p.m. Tick My Box
The Drama Department stages an encore performance of the hilarious Irish play, Tick My Box. The production stars Aileen Brenner '09 and Dorothy Johnson '09 in an array of multiple roles. Polly Sommerfeld directs this play, written by Iseult Golden, David Horan and Carmel Stephens. Tawes Theatre.

The Drama Department stages a matinee finale of Tick My Box. Tawes Theatre.
7 p.m. Performers' Showcase
Musician Chad Stokes headlines an evening of entertainment. Comedy Central's Kyle Cease (10 Things I Hate about You) emcees the show; illusionist Mike Super, winner of NBC's Hit TV show Phenomenon, casts his spell on the audience; and Gabriela Garcia Medina, 2009 Spoken Word Performer of the Year, reads from her poetry. Decker Theatre.

The Washington College Concert Series opens its 58th season with a performance by the Brentano String Quartet, a magnificent ensemble that in addition to performing the entire two-century range of standard quartet repertoire, also demonstrates an interest in very old and very new music.
